91 points 2 Puffs and a GOOD VALUE designation from the Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine: "Sweet, well-defined cherries are the centerpiece of this ripe and wonderfully continuous young Pinot, and, while creamy oak is everywhere apparent, it stays in service of fruit throughout. The wine is full, fleshy and nicely rounded in feel, and its balanced acidity brings a bit of brightness to its long, juicy, lightly tannic finish. Tasty now with savory pork entrees, it can only be helped by age, and it looks to reach its peak some three to five years down the line. It is an amazingly attractive buy at the price." (Volume 28 Issue 8: June 2004) K&L's notes - This wine is made from grapes grown in the Green Valley, a little subregion of the more famous Russian River Valley appellation.. This inaugural release for Orogeny is made from five ideally situated vineyards in this cool-climate, fog-laden zone. The aromas of mixed fresh berries, nutmeg and ginger pave the way for sweet raspberry and cherry fruit, with overtones of caramel and spice on the palate. The tannins are fine but firm, and bright acidity carries the long, sweet berry finish. Duck breast and grilled salmon are a few good choices for food pairings. Though pasta with mushrooms would be nice, too!
