Bobal: the underrated grape with surprising health benefits

2018 Sierra Norte Tempermento Bobal is our Wine of the Week!

Spain’s DO Utiel-Requena is the spiritual home of the Bobal grape. What was once thought of as a blending grape, the underrated Bobal has only recently been getting the attention it deserves in the wine world. The climate in DO Utiel-Requena is continental with some Mediterranean influence and an abundance of sunshine. The Mediterranean breezes refresh and humidify the nights while the warm winds drift in from the interior plateau of La Mancha to dry the vines. Thanks to this unique climate, the region benefits from not needing to use pesticides or herbicides. Fun fact: Bobal grapes contain high levels of antioxidants and resveratrol, a natural substance with health benefits for the heart which helps protect against cancer. Which means that, when consumed in moderation, Bobal wine can be beneficial for our health. As if we needed another reason to drink wine!

Tempermento Bobal is practicing organic and aged 6-8 months in new French oak. Dark fruit flavors with hints of earth and spice display on the nose while the palate is smooth and silky with ripe red fruits and vanilla notes.

Pair with rich stews, casseroles, BBQ meats, and paella.

Take home 2018 Sierra Norte Tempermento Bobal for only $11.99 this week while supplies last.

Cheers!
