This week’s Wine of the Week features 2020 Tensley Syrah Lite from Santa Barbara County, California! One of the rising stars of California winemaking, Joey Tensley has gained his reputation by focusing on single vineyard Syrahs and Rhone blends from Santa Barbara. The region is one of the only places in the world with a mountain range that runs east-west, resulting in incredibly unique microclimates that are important in growing a variety of grapes from Chardonnay to rich Rhone blends. This Syrah comes from cool, hilly terroir in Santa Barbara and was fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel and then aged in neutral barrels for six months. The result is a Vin de Pays-style wine that’s deliciously expressive and loaded with notes of currants, plum, and blackberry on the nose. Hints of violets and spices make this medium-bodied Syrah interesting, and incredibly drinkable. An excellent match with lamb chops, hamburgers, grilled veggies, steak fajitas, pizza, meatloaf, and aged cheeses. Take home a bottle of 2020 Tensley Syrah Lite for only $12.99 while supplies last.
