2018 Gianfranco Alessandria Barbera d’Alba is our latest Wine of the Week! Gianfranco Alessandria took over managing his family’s farm after his father’s passing in 1986. The farm holds 7 hectares of vineyards divided between Nebbiolo, Barbera, and Dolcetto in the commune of Monforte d’Alba’s best-known Crus. Farming methods are based on natural principles and are done as organically as possible using only minimal sulfur and copper out of respect to the environment. This Barbera d’Alba is quite rich with wild red fruit notes of black cherries, currants, and violets. The palate is soft and rounded with flavors of black raspberry, cherry cola, roasted coffee, black pepper, and spice. The low acidity and medium plush tannins make this an excellent match with veal, pizza, cheesy polenta, pasta dishes, and charcuterie. Try 2018 Gianfranco Alessandria Barbera d’Alba for only $12.99 this week while supplies last. Cheers! |
